In a nutshell, Friday was a great day. We caught around 25 bass, including 7 keepers. Our best 5 keepers weighed around 18lbs-20lbs! Our first spot was the best of the day in the back of Spring Creek(near the feeder mouth). In the first 1.5 hours we had a limit with good keepers all on the Tn-rig. Then we moved over to Fall Creek and fished for hours with only one big bite a 5+lb on the Tn-rig. Our last spot was in the back of Stewart Creek around 2pm. There we caught a couple more keepers and a bunch of short fish on the Tn-rig. Great day!

Yesterday I fished the USA Bass tournament. Fishing from 6:30am-2:30pm, we only caught 8 fish, including 4 keepers! It was a crazy day to say the least. We started at our hot from the day before. After 2 hours and only 2 short bass in the back of Spring Creek(feeder mouth) we had to abandon our #1 spot(frustrating). ***water temp was 52
    ***

From there we headed over to Fall Creek, but there were too many boats. We turned around and headed back down lake towards Fate Sanders, stopping in Sister Cove. There, the water was 49 and chocolate milk. After fishing a 200 yard bank with no bites, we packed it up. Then we tried behind Fate Sanders Marina where there was a lot of bait……one short fish on a Minnow 2.5 Craw.

We left Fate and headed across the channel over to the big point at Stewart Creek(water temp was 53 and clearer). There we caught our first keeper around 3.5lbs on a Minnow 2.5 Craw in 2ft of water. We continued around the point and all the way down to the ski cove with no more activity:(

At this time is was around 12pm and the sun had been working for a while. I wanted to get up on a shallow flat where the wind had been blowing all day. We motored to the flat on the right just before the Lamar Hill boat ramp. Casting Rat 2.75 Red Craws, we caught 3 more good keepers in one hour!!! All the fish were caught casting to bank and fishing in 1.5ft-2.5ft. Now we had 4 keepers, needing one more! Well, we fished our tail off and never had another bite.

For not having a fish until 11:30am we had a strong comeback, but needed one more. We finished in 4th with 12.32lb. The last paid spot went to BCGS guide, Hunter Carmichael, who had 12.36lbs!!!! And first place was 14lbs. Needless to say, that 5th was a game changer…..maybe next time.

Brian, would you show us a photo of your TN rig with the typical baits you use. what size and colors of baits are best right now on the TN rig?

Sure, ill get one up. The Tn-rigs you can see how I make in YouTube under “Brian carper tn-rig”. I use either 4″ or 6″ white paddle flukes made by Zoom on 1/4oz swimbait jig heads.

Well, now I know why I only caught one keeper at the Spring mouth on Friday after seeing you.

I know how it feels to not place in the money by a few fractions of a pound. Heartbreaking.

    Hey Brian,

When you say “Feeder mouth” what exactly does that mean. Where the Mouth of the creek meets the main lake or the actual creek empties into the lake way back in the very back. Some people describe the mouth differently.

    Thanks
    Eric
