The last few days I’ve been trying to crappie fish! The bite has been extremely tough as I’m not sure if the lake is turning over or because we’re in this post spawn transition……. although I’ve been catching deep fish still with eggs.
I have fished 75 brush piles in the past two days for a total of 20-something keepers. I’ve been focusing on brushpiles from Fate Sanders to Four Corners in 10 to 16 feet of water with chartreuse Crappie Magnet jigs and green with blue flake Crappie Magnets. We have also been tightlining minnows 2 to 3 feet off the bottom. There has been no dominant area over another. You’ll get no bites or get one bite and nothing after.
The next few weeks the crappie should be changing soon and really turning on.
I’ve also been doing a little bass fishing. Jones Mill Point is starting to hold some schoolers in 8 to 15 feet of water, Stewarts Creek Point directly across from the boat ramp in 8 to 15 feet of water is holding some schools as well. I caught a few on the Alabama Rig the other day in 12 ft.
Also, the bridge is starting to hold bass! They’ve been holding in 5 to 15 feet of water around tons of bait in the shade. We’ve been catching some on Alabama Rigs and chatterbaits. This usually does not start until the water is 80 degrees, but this year’s been weird nonetheless.
