My Best Day ever on Priest
I put in at fate sanders at 7:30 and fished the left side of the cove with a buzzbait and caught 2, all very small. Made a run towards bryant grove, through both cut throughs and fished a cove on the right with a buzzbait and caught 3 more, all very small. I remembered Bryans post about the white PVC pipe on the point across from the ramp so I pulled in there on the flat and fished. Caught 4 with 1 being a keeper on the shakeyhead and had a big fish jump and throw it, boat sitting in about 8 foot of water. Then went on down to the bluff wall and fished the trees. I fished the bluff wall and that pocket with a shakey head and caught 2 more small ones.
By now its 10:30 and I trolled back over to the PVC pipe on the point and my graphs just start lighting up with fish sitting right on the drop off. So I hang back from the pole and fish the drop off. Over the next two hours I caught 28 bass on that ledge. A 4.5 lb smallie on the first cast, a 5 pound, 2 – 4 pound largemouth and handful of 3’s. All fishing the shakeyhead. At one point I caught 8 fish on 8 straight cast. They were so active that I would get a bite and miss the hookset and another fish would grab it before it fell. Boat had to be sitting in 25-30 ft of water pointed towards the PVC pole keeping it between the opening and just working the ledge casting into about 15 and fish were sitting in 20. There’s not a lot like setting the hook on a fish 20 ft straight down cause for a second, they all feel like 5 pounds. They were so active I tied on a 3/4 football jig and on the first cast caught the 5 pounder I mentioned earlier. My best 5 went 18+ plus today. And not being funny, the one that threw my shakeyhead in the beginning, may have been bigger than them all. I’ve only had a few days like this in my life and never anything close on Priest. And yes, I have pics to prove it, no fishing tales. I’ll be back out there tomorrow to see if they’re still there. I’m in the 21′ fisher deckboat.
