Brian as you know I post in the Percy Priest Post A lot.. I just happen to be painting a Lake house on Old Hickory. Im guessing the back side of the lake… Ive never once been out on the lake by boat.. Ive caught a few 1 to 2 pound bass off the Dock . But im guessing sense the water is drawn down I see more trees and logs and stumps every where.. From what I see it seems dangerous even at full pool from what im seeing now… And Last ? brian .Is crappie Fishing good at OH or should I just stay at Percy??

Old Hickory lake basically stays at 444-445-446 all year around. It’s 1 lake in Tennessee that they don’t play with partly based on the number of houses and docks on the lake. Many of the docks however are in 1-2 feet of water…maybe why you are seeing the stumps.

Like HalfBass said, OH rarely fluctuates.
As far as it being dangerous for navigation, your biggest cause for concern would be floating debris. Since every time it rains, the junk from upriver has to make it’s way through the system. For what it’s worth, I feel 100 times more comfortable running full out on OH than I do on Priest. There just aren’t as many sharp drops/rises and rock piles on OH. That’s not to say that you can just go crazy, but as long as you’re aware of where the channel is and keep your eyes peeled for junk in the water and other boats, you’ll be pretty safe. In terms of seeing stumps and stuff, a lot of that has to do with how shallow some of the docks on OH are. There are also a ton of pockets and creeks that are silted in from the relatively consistent flow of the river. This makes some of the creeks easier than others to get in and out of. I personally always get hesitant running in and out of Spence Creek.

You can catch crappie on Old Hickory but Percy Priest is x10 better than OH for crappie IMO.
