I have pretty much been a Trout fisherman all my life. Just now getting back into Crappie Fishing… I use to think you could only catch Crappie doing the Spring…. But I see everyone posting Crappie Pictures all year. I have two questions, sorry if I sound Stupid…. I would like to try Crappie fishing at night, Do they bite good at night??? and also I have a light under my pontoon boat to shine down in the water…. Is it good or not good to use the light at night to catch Crappie…. Thanks and any answer will help me catch more Crappie at night im hopeing….

It’s been years since I’ve done it, but yes, crappie under the lights can sometimes be the way to go. I’ve heard that under Hobson Pike bridge is a good spot.

I fish under the lights during the summer (late June into September) with good success for Crappie. I typically find deep structure near the river channel that are holding crappie in their summer pattern and have good success.

Try to stay away from windy conditions and the full moon. Those seem to mess things up. If you find a still night with clouds, or new moon you will do well. This is primarily how I fish for crappie during the summer.
