Today I had a great day on the water with 2 clients. We caught 15 nice slabs tight lining minnows and Crappie Magnets(Pearl, 1/8oz). Three key observations of the day

    1. We did not catch any fish deeper than 15ft. They came out of 10ft-15ft.

    2. We did not catch any in brushpiles that were on rock…..only sand and mud bottoms(flats).

    3. More than 50% of the crappie I cleaned had eggs in them.

We spent the entire trip on the flat across the channel from Bryants Grove. We fished random brush on the drop off.

❓ Brian, I noticed a few of the ones we caught a couple weeks ago had small eggs. I have never known of this. Is that normal for November crappie ? Do they abort these and start again or carry them till spring ? Just wondering if anyone knows. If not, they would be good questions for a fish biologist. David

There are always crappie that spawn each fall, but no where near the spring spawn. They are always deeper in the fall with they spawn. That is what I learned, but would be a good question to research.

When you say “on the flat across the channel from Bryants Grove, random brush on the drop off” are you referring to the area across the channel directly opposite the ramp? Thanks very much.
