After sitting around the house all morning, I finally decided to head to the lake Sunday afternoon.
During a break in the weather, I headed out of Elm Hill Marina at 3:15. I ran straight across the lake to fish the bluff wall between the swimming area and the Cooks Recreation Area. After fishing a jig with no success, the wind kicked up a few notches and the rain started coming down again. Main lake water temp was at 58.3, super windy, rough water with white caps. I decided to stay close to the ramp in case the weather took an unexpected turn for the worse. So, I ran back into Elm Hill Marina to finish out the afternoon. Fishing in the back of the marina, I had 2 short strikes on a white/chartreuse 1/4oz Hoppy’s buzzbait. A trailer hook would have solved that problem. I saw both fish swipe at the back of the buzzbait. One was a pretty decent size. I also missed a fish on a football head jig in 5ft of water around some stumps with mixed rocks. I stayed back there until dark, then took out. I didn’t catch anything, but should have… I did get a nice scratch on the back of the boat after getting the rear end blown into the dock before bumping the power up on the trolling motor. Oh well, live and learn. Even without catching anything, there is something I love about being the only person out on the lake [at least within sight].
