November 22
The last few days on Percy Priest Lake have been fair. Wednesday we had 4 bass and yesterday we caught 9(7 short bass and 2 big drum). Don’t get me wrong, we had a great time on the water, but the fishing has been better.
Now, today was better. I decided to try back in the river. We started at the East and West Fork split casting crankbaits, jigs, TN-rigs. There was bait everywhere, but we could not get any to strike. After 30 minutes we moved about 500 yards into the West Fork where there is a big rock point that comes out from the right bank. There we caught 5, including 3 keepers in 4ft-8ft! We caught one on a sr5(shad color), one keeper on a H2O 3-5ft square bill crank in sexy shad color, another keeper on a 1/2oz, brown jig, and two on the TN-rig with three storm swimbaits.
From there we moved over to the East Fork near the East Fork boat ramp and I missed a big fish on a brown/black 3/8oz jig with green Paca Craw and caught two short fish on square bill.
We hit a few spots with no luck before we headed to our last spot, first big flat on the right after the Jefferson Pike Bridge. There we caught 2 more, one on crankbait and another on buzzbait in 1ft-3ft.
On my second trip I decided to go check out Spring Creek. Our first spot was at the mouth, fishing buzzbaits on shallow rocks we picked up our first fish on the first right point. Then we motored to the back and started casting Hoppy’s buzzbaits and Heddon zara spooks in 2ft-3ft. Fishing from the opening of the spring channel to the 840 bridge, we caught 3 on spooks and had 7 strikes. Most of the fish were smacking the bait, not eating it.
Then we moved over to the back of Fall Creek and caught few small ones on sr5(shad color) and spooks. Once again, probably had 6 strikes on my spook, but only connected with 3.
Finally we headed behind Fate Sanders before it got dark. Fishing the back with our Hoppy’s Hawg Buzz(black and chartreuse), we had 2 blow-ups and landed one keeper.
All and all it was a better day. More keepers and more strikes, although we only caught 50% of them.
Going to be cold out there next week, be safe!
