Today I tested my manhood by baring the cold temperature and high winds for a few hours. I launched my boat at Fall Creek boat ramp with the thoughts of staying in the creek. Fishing with sr5 in craw color pattern in 3ft-6ft…….no fish. I also tried 3/16oz shaky heads(with watermelon Zoom Trick worms) on the rock bends and spooks on the isolated stumps on the channel ledge…..no fish. Water temp was 46-49

So I motored out of the creek and started heading down lake. After I pasted Spring Creek I stopped on the next bluff wall on the right. I started at the end of the bluff wall at the transition. Fishing in 2ft-8ft with my sr5(craw) I had 2 on the line and landed one. Then I tried the other side of the bluff wall and caught 2, including one keeper. Both fish were caught in 3ft-5ft.

My fingers were numb now and I was thinking of another area out of the wind. I headed toward the back of Spring Creek where the water is a little warmer(57) because of the spring in the back. The wind was blowing pretty hard back there so it was not a long stay, but I had one hook-up(about 2.5lbs) that shook the hook when jumping out of water. The water was a little stained and with the 57 degree water temp I tried a bait I grew up fishing with on the Potomac River, a Mann’s -1 Baby. This bait goes 1ft, had a wide wobble, which displaces a lot of water and loud rattles! Im not sure of the color, but it similar to a Bandit-Root Beer.

Well, I still feel like a man. The air temp was in the 20’s, the wind was 20mph out of the N and I had 5 on and landed 3 in 4 hours.

The next few weeks I am going to spend time mid and down lake fishing deep with blade baits! Excited to learn more and catch some schooling fish!

    Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
A lot to be thankful for, God Bless,
    Brian

Well, don’t do what I did. O-fer. Fished the bluffs across from Bryants Grove Boat Ramp. Fish were showing up on the graph, but couldn’t entice a strike. Tried blade baits, but the XPS version doesn’t have the vibration that I’m accustomed to. Might have to pay the extra for the original silver buddy. Am thinking a drop shot might work also, but didn’t have the proper tackle onboard.

Tried the point off of Hong Kong also. Again, fish showed up on the Humminbird, but wouldn’t touch my offering.

Water temps are below 50 degrees. It is way early in the fall for temps to be that low. That combined with the late drawing down of lake levels have me confused as well as the fish I’m sure. Might try something different tomorrow, wife permitting :O)
