The last few trips on Priest have still been a little tough. Water is starting in the upper 60’s and ending around mid 70’s by late afternoon. The morning has been producing a few topwater bites, not as many as I have been expecting with the cooler temperatures and fog. As the sun rises between 9-11am we are switching over to crankbaits in 2ft-5ft. From what I have been hearing and my experience, a slower jig bite on the end of bluff walls that transition into flats in producing quality fish(not as many fish, but bigger). This cold front moving through right now will ultimately be great, but might slow things down for a couple days. I am finding that if I stay out on the water until evening, the bait are coming to the surface in backs and coves and creeks are are feeding. One day last week when fishing behind Fate Sanders Marina around 530pm, the bait was EVERYWHERE, but I could not get them to bite anything. Finally, I tied on a Shad Rap #5, shad color pattern and started burning it down to the bottom and pumping it with pauses. In between pauses they were slamming the bait, we caught 12 in about 30 mins!

Other areas that have been producing have been the mouth of Fall Creek, in the first cove, where 2 points kinda come together about 100 yards apart. We have casting 1/4oz chrome/blue, rattle traps and H2O square bills crankbaits that run 3ft-5ft, shad color pattern.

The cove straight across the second cut through, coming from Fate Sanders. In the back left pocket with the logs piled up has been holding fish. Early morning buzzbaits producing several strikes there.

Straight across from Bryant’s Grove swimming area, the back that runs 500 yards to Long Hunter State Park. This bank is loaded with shallow boulder rock in 1ft-5ft…..crankbaits have been producing 6-8 bass each day!

    Tight Lines,

Landed 4 today including 2 keeper largemouth and this 3lb, 12oz smallie. All were caught on flukes. Probably could’ve caught 10 or so more if I had used a 3/0 instead of a 2/0 hook.
