Yesterday I have two trips. The bass were more active and the big crappie were biting.

I started the day bass fishing in Fall Creek. Fishing points at the mouth of the creek, we found tons of bait fish. We caught some around the boat ramp and lost a giant. All the bait were in 3ft-8ft of water off the flats right on the channel. We fished with shad rap #5 in shad color.

Later we went back Fall Creek and caught several more near the boat ramp and the points on the right as you enter the creek. The bait at that time(afternoon) were up shallower…..bait fish everywhere!

Our next area was the cove on the right just before you enter the Smyrna pump house cut(coming from Fate Sanders). We saw bait and bass feeding on bait as we drove by. We quickly motored to the action and started catching fish in 2ft-4ft. Casting H2O square bills and shad raps in shad color pattern, we caught 8-10 in 45 minutes! The bass were aggressively feeding!

Our last area was behind Fate Sanders Marina. The back of the cove was stacked with bait and we caught 6 in 30mins, casting #5 shad raps. We could not get the bass to strike our lure retrieving at a constant medium pace. We had to crank it down quickly and then pump the bait in with a pause and jerk retrieve. They would strike the lure just after you paused the bait.

The lake almost down 1ft now and fall fishing is in effect. If you want to book a trip and use your $25 discount to catch some bass, call me today!

    God Bless,
    Brian

Much better day than I had on Saturday. Fished from 9am-2pm and only caught two! Fished a lot of the same water as you did too. I probably wasn’t holding my jaw right, haha.

We fished from 3-Dark on Sunday evening on the lower end of the lake.
Thinking that the current from the drawdown might have fish set up to feed, we started at Goose Island. Nothing going there on either side. we threw topwaters and squarebills. Then we hit the bluff wall ledge by Cooks. Caught one short fish on a mid-running crankbait. Then we fished the back of Hamilton Creek. We caught 6 short fish in 5mins around scattered wood on a shakey head and one on a squarebill. Thinking that wood might be the deal, we ran to the YMCA cove [this decision was soley my partner’s – i take no formal responsibility]. The cove was filled with bait [gizzard and threadfin shad]. Didn’t catch anything in there. Some fish did start blowing up on bait at the mouth of the cove, but by the time we got to them they had gone back down. The graph was showing tight balls of bait and bass chasing all over the water column. Before taking out, we fished the back of Elm Hill marina and caught a single short fish on a small squarebill. I also broke off a larger fish on a hookset that was running back into a laydown on the shakey head. I’m still kicking myself over that one – i should have retied after fishing the same rig for the past few days on the Cumberland and at Priest [rocks…]

Lots of bait fisb moving upstream but very little actiion. Caught three small ones on sq. bill 4-6ft. No action in shallow on buzz bait at all, not even a look.

The other day I still caught a few from 10ft-18ft. There are always crappie deeper, but the 4ft-10ft bite should be turning on. I heard the PVC poles are productive. Brian

Also had trouble with the Crappie bite. Fished 5 hours Tuesday and only had 2 keepers. We tight line brush and stakes. No fish on poles this day. Fished 7 to 15 feet all morning. Water temp was 61. Went up Stones for a while just past Jeffersons Spring bridge with no luck. Anyone doing and good?

    Happy Hook’in

I fished friday evening mostly around fall creek. saw shad everywhere and bigger fish feeding on them. caught one keeper on a silver and blue rattle trap, then a few smaller bass on shad rap. tried buzz baits for a while and didn’t get a single strike.

i have a question though – even though we caught a few fish, it still felt like we weren’t getting into them like we should have been. there were larger fish feeding everywhere and the one decent one i caught was barely keeper size. Also, most of the fish we caught were near the shore and not around the bait. i feel like i’m missing something because we were clearly in the right place and should have been catching a lot more.

    can anyone help me out?

Nick, I experience this a lot as well and what I have concluded is sometimes there is tons of bait in a cove or creek where the bass have moved into, but are not feeding on them. I believe bass are almost always in the area due to the food supply, but will not be aggressive due to weather, water conditions, etc. I always start fishing the schools of bait and if I don’t get a bite in 30 minutes I move to a new spot or slow down in the same area. It can be so frustratinfg fishing shad schools, but when you find one where you cast into and they whack it……its on. Your on the right path, if you don’t find any feeding bass in the schools after 30 mins, try fishing structure close by and slowing down. Brian
