Crappie this year has stunk for me. I fished the four corners area and pooles knob area on Friday trolling jigs and minnows. Caught 5 shorts, 1 keeper, and this beautiful 19″ smallmouth that wrecked my lines but my kids loved.

I got out again this morning in midst of the rain and wind from 10 am -1 pm. I wanted to catch some bass. Fished mousetail island and some points around four corners. I caught 13 bass total with 5 keepers. 1 4+lber and 2 3+lbers. The funny thing was that I had to be in the wind and waves to catch them. Everytime I tried to escape into a protected cove, the water temp rose a degree or two and no bites at all. Move back around the point and battle the wind and the rain and I would catch fish again!! Rough day but well worth it. The largest 4+ lber went 20″ even and was caught on the 3rd cast of the day.

3/16 oz shakeyhead (owner ultrahead) with magnum trick worm, for some reason I get more bites on the magnum than the normal. Sometimes I dye just the tip of the tail. Today I did not. This is my go bait, I catch 75% of my fish on this rig year round. I also threw a lizard for a bit and no bites on it. Fishing real shallow boat sitting in 3-5 ft and casting around the shallow points where real big chunk rocks were. I tried some gravel banks but got nothing. Only where there where rocks. It gets caught a lot but I just shake it lose. I caught at least 1 on every stop with rocks. Wasnt necessarily fishing the bank, just fishing the flat where thes points come out. I caught 1 keeper and 1 short from the dock at 4 corners as I was pulling out.

BTW, I switched to Sunline Sniper Fluorocarbon today for the first time and it was great, not 1 breakoff. I also changed knots. I tried the P-Line Fluoroclear experiment for a week and I did not like it. I couldn’t feel a thing. 10lb on spinning and 16 lb on my baitcasters.

It did! The best thing about the reports is that I fish around some of the areas mentioned but have never thought to fish that exact spot thats mentioned because of the way it looks and it helps me learn lake terrain and what I’m actually fishing and looking for.

BTW, I saw you the other day coming out of Four corners. I have a 21′ fisher deck boat (maroon and cream faded) and had my boys with me. I love the boat because my family can go but its hell when the wind kicks ups because of how high out of the water it sits and I will get blown everywhere.
