Sept 23
I haven’t been out for bass in a few days on Percy Priest. I just got back from Guntersville and had a pretty good time down there frog fishing and flipping docks.
My guides reported to me the bass are still hanging on to their summer patterns. The waters temp is in the 80s and the fish are still near the channel. The mouth of Lamar Hill on each point appears to be holding bait and bass that are schooling in the afternoon in the evenings. Shaky heads with red trick worms, 8 – 12 foot crankbaits, and chatterbaits have been productive. The morning has been slower, but late afternoon and evening the bass start feeding.
Also, flats above Spring and Fall Creek on the main river channel have been productive. Rattle traps, shaky heads, and topwater lures have been catching bass in 2 to 4 feet of water while schooling near balls of bait. The first three flats past Jefferson Pike Bridge have been productive areas.
This morning I crappie fished with fair success. We only fished with minnows tightline off the bottom 2-3 feet. The long point in front of Long Hunter State Park was successful again around the red channel buoy and then near the Youth Camp we caught a few short fish. We ended under the Weakley lane bridge on the right in 18ft we call several there. It was a good bite until the sun came up….then it got tuff.
