Well, what can I say, they say it’s good to be humbleb…..well I’m humbled today. Yesterday I fished with a client for 9 hours. Total, we caught around 12, mostly on crankbaits. We fished around 15 spots and most of them were covered with bait with bass breaking the surface, but reluctant to bite. We started out fishing the flat/pocket before the Smyrna pump house. Tons of bait! I found the bait there the day before and thought I could get them to bite the following morning, but that never happened. Then moved to Fall Creek where we caught some the day before. Tons of bait, we caught 3-4 on crankbaits, but not as many and I thought we would. Hindsight, I should have stayed there longer and tried different baits..maybe a fluke, sinko or plastic worm. I knew the fish were there(I caught 10-12 yesterday) and should have dissected them further(not sure why I moved when I had bass located…that’s the take away for me…always learning). Then I moved to the mouth of Larmar Hill, bait, bait, bait! Fishing in 1ft-4ft with rattle traps and crankbaits, caught 4-6 little one and lost a few decent ones. Moved to Stewart Creek, coves on right past boat ramp, bait but no bass. Fished behind Hong Kong Island, bait everywhere, caught 2-3 little one. We did see several schools of bass surface for a few minutes, but nothing consistent. Fished around LaVergne Pumphouse, 2ft-6ft on windy point, caught 2 little ones and missed a few larger bass on a buzzbait!
We hit a few other spots, but all-in-all a tough day. We probably made 10,000 cast between the two of us and caught a some fish, but moved around a lot and never landed in a area where we felt we could stay and catch fish.
Hope this help!
P.S. I wish I would have gone out today. I feel really confident that with the clouds and rain those schools of bass are going to be really aggressive today!!! Oh well
