Looking to get a side Image capable unit. I am thinking mount the unit at the bow on a ram and the transducer on the stern so can potentially use the side scan while fishing and driving. I want to be able to idle by a point or ledge and see if there are fish before I drop the trolling motor but still be able to see the SI while fishing. Don’t really want to spend the money to have SI at both bow and console units… I currently have a Garmin with down scan at the console and a lowrance HDI 7 on the trolling motor. Does it make sense to have the side Image on the trolling motor? I am not looking to break the bank but willing to spend enough to be happy with my purchase. (hopefully less than 1K) Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have a H=bird 998 on bow and 898 on dash. My boat is a G3 19ft’er, 2010 model that with all the add on cost $35,000. I wish I’d gone big on both locations. Boat still would of been paid for by now. I fish about `140 days per year for the last 6 years, going to Fla, and Mo (twice a yr).

My recommendation would be to go with Humminbird units all the way around. With the newer Humminbird units, you can have your SI at the console(transducer mounted on the transom) and then network with a HB Down Imaging unit at the bow. This allows you to share the SI image with the bow. Keep in mind that you will be as far away from the SI transducer as physically possible and unless you allow for that when you are fishing, you will have already passed the spot that you are looking at on the bow. Personally, I have an 1199 HB the console and an 859 at the bow. The units are not networked currently, but will be after talking with a HB expert last night on the lake. Networking allows you to do what I previously said and it also allows sharing of waypoints which is what I am most interested in. If I mark structure at the bow or console I want to be able to see it at the other location. Then you can enable casting rings on both units and always know where you are at in relation to the structure and casting distance.

I have a Lowrance has 7 at the front and 10 on the console. They are linked together and I pretty much leave my front unit on DI and map all the time. I know guys that have a big unit at the console and just turn it around when fishing……that seems to work ok.

Brian, will Lowrance share SI images to a non-SI unit?
