My son and I launched at Jefferson Springs this morning. Water temp was 38 degrees. We tried jigging bladebaits along the dropoffs with no success. On the way to Spring Creek we noticed an abundance of shad where the river meets the two creeks, especially at the mouth of Spring Creek. Fall creek was frozen over.

Water temp at the finger coves was in the low to mid 50s. At the mouth of the feeder creek we lucked into a school of moderate size largemouth. Caught 5 there on luckycraft jerkbaits and Tennesse Rigs, 3 of which measured. We caught another 4 during the remainder of the day.

About midway back out of the creek, we switched to slow retrieving crappie magnets. We loaded up on white and yellow bass, and lots of crappie, including many keepers.

Despite enduring a couple of sleet showers, it was a pretty good day.

Catfish must be on a bladebait bite this month.
I talked to a kid fishing in Hamilton creek who had caught a 6lb flathead in a blade bait in 30ft of water on a blade bait.

Tried to do a replay of Thursday today. Wasn’t happening. Recent rains have reduced water clarity significantly. That coupled with the shad moving further up Spring Creek and the adjoining waters at 52 degrees compared to 54 in the creek probably had something to do with the lack of bite.

Will see what happens in a couple of days.
