I fished out of dayton today in the state. There was 122 boats fishing the tournament I was kind of nervous when my partner said he has never been on that part of chickamauga . I told them the gameplan ( fish shallow in pockets until we find them or we get skunked) them move out to some deep points and ledges. We fished for an hour in a pocket that I like. Then I caught my first bass of the day. I got my squarebill stuck in the grass, then I ripped it out and he inhaled it. First keeper in the box was 15.5 inches, probably 1.5 pounds. We fished some more pockets I know and the fog cleared up enough to make a run. We ran up to try ledges for a while and we didn’t get any bites. Then we headed to a bank that I saw earlier that is somewhat deep and full of brush. Within a few minutes I get a hit on my go 2 baits paddle worm in plum color. I swing back the rod and missed it.Then I caught one in the brush that was almost 15″, I really could have used it. Then I hook a nice one (didn’t know it at the time) and I have to reel 100 mph to keep up. I see that is at least 3 pounds, then I get a little exited. After two missed net tries, I got anxious and boat swung him. Probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do, but it was about to jump and I had to do something. I wanted to try some deep ledges so we search for some and attempted to fish them. No bites on the 3/4 ounce football head or 6xd or big worm. We decide to get back 20 minutes early and weigh the fish in. Lots of boat had 0 or 1 fish. My bag weighed 5 lbs 11 oz. I still would have rather had one that weighed that, but I guess I can’t complain too much :D. All in all a ok day, but still a little disapointed that I couldn’t get more going for me. The first place winner had 25 pounds and were from waverly. The 2nd and 3rd was Soddy Daisy high school with 23 pounds and 21 pounds.
I am still trying to find out who took my picture with my bass. I will attach it as soon as I get it.

Soddy Daisy lives 15 minutes away from the spot we launched from. Yes they let us throw the umbrella rig. It seemed like most people caught their fish on big worms. Not too many said jigs or even crankbaits.

Too bad I wasn’t allowed to combine my two fish with the other boat fishing for whitwell high school. We would have 14 pounds and we would have advanced to the next tournament. Both our partners got skunked 😕

Sounds like it was a great experience, regardless of the outcome. Keep it up, Creekcrappie!
