I plan to take one of my co-workers in search of crappie Thursday. What do you think this rain will do to the bite? Where should I try to fish? Will the creeks be pretty muddy and shot Thursday?

I fished this past Saturday morning for a few hours but it was slow. I fished the mouth of spring/fall creek drifting minnows fishing 12/18ft of water and fishing around 6-8 feet deep and we caught a few shorts and two keepers, but it was pretty slow.

Brian, have you been out this week for crappie? What do you think I should try?

I am fishing mid lake now in the coves near pooles knob campground. We have been catching quite a few in 2ft 4ft around boulders and wood with minnows and floats and jigs.

So don’t see much need to fish up in spring/fall creek now that the water temp has came up quite a bit?

I fished mid-lake around the areas where Brian had mentioned and also behind Hong Kong island. I was able to catch 1 keeper and 8 total casting jigs from 615-815. I didn’t catch a fish in 1-4ft but all of mine came 6-8ft around brush. I’m not by any means a crappie fisherman but it’s getting frustrating. I’ve been out on 3 short times, about 8 hours total, in two different areas and I’ve caught 3 keepers and about 20 crappie total. I may just stick to what I know! It’s embarrassing coming home with no fish to eat to my newly wed wife. :/

I fished today from 6:30 until around 3 near the campground and the lake points outside that cove and took home 27 keepers. Most were BIG! I’ll try and post up some pics tomorrow.

I may have seen you tnbassman. Afriend and I was in the tan Lowe stinger.

We caught them fishing about 5 feet deep in 9-14 FOW off wood. A few off the TWRA markers.

Brian, thanks again for this site! Worth every penny! I would have been up in fall creek again not catching a thing had I not asked you for advice.

Yep, I think I saw you in that cove around 630 and again at 8. I was casting jigs on the TWRA markers out of a blue dual console stratos 294XLE. I could only catch them in that cove off or near that marker. I did catch a 12″ off the island. I’m gonna take dad on Saturday morning for a few hours. We’ll have minnows and jigs then. Hopefully I can grab 10-12 keepers.

We’re you fishing some wood/brush in the middle of that second cove (the one closest to Hong Kong island)?

We first just trolled the bank in around 9 foot of water in the back along that rocky bank and picked up several short fish and a few keepers. Most fish were caught near the boat in 9 FOW on minnows and a few on crappie magnets retrieved slow. I did pick up some brush on my electronics along that bank and most likely the fish were holding on brush. We were doing well dragging minnows on bobbers behind the boat as we drifted casting jigs. The bobbers were set to 3-5 feet deep with minnows and most fish were caught in the 4-5 foot range in around 8-10ft deep.
