Yesterday evening during the Friday Night Blast-Off from Fate Sanders my son and I were victims of the worst experience of my 25+ years fishing on Priest.

Upon entering the first cut-through going down river, some yahoo decided it was a good idea to get side-by-side within a couple feet of us and then put his boat directly in front of us spraying his rooster tail directly our way. We endured 6-7 seconds of what seemed like being under a waterfall and had to completely stop to get out of it. So, for the remainder of the tournament we froze our butts off in soaking wet clothes, had to bilge gallons of water, and made do with sopping gear. My son thought he was going to die. Now, I consider myself a mild mannered person, but the worst of me came out when this idiot’s total disregard for others put my son and I in harms way.

We were able to find the culprit, and I’m not proud of my choice of words in berating him for his ignorant behavior.

I know that he is an acquaintance of Brian, has access to this forum, and should know better. I can only hope that this was a temporary lack of reason on his part, and that others will not be victims of his further actions.

I am on the same page with you on this. It’s the most irritating thing when a boat thinks that they need to come within a few feet or yards of your boat. I think they should treat this like they do on the roads. If you get caught doing that kind of thing that you can be fined or get suspended from using your boat for a period of time. Simply this is how people die on the water. Sorry you had to experience that with your son really irritates me.

Sorry to hear about what happened to you last night.
That’s one reason I kinda stay back during a blast off and let the other faster boats go out first.
I am glad no serious harm came to you and your son, especially after you found that guy later on the water.
were you able to bring fish in? we had 3 keepers and were freezing, so I can’t imagine how you guys felt being wet before you started.

Seems as though Percy Priest spawns more jackasses than anything else. Two weeks ago the large cove next to Hong Kong (no wake zone) had a ski boat running all between bass boats. If he only knew how close he was to his boat becoming a permanent fixture on Priest, he might have changed his mind.

Chuck… We had 5 in the livewell, but didn’t come close to the 16 lbs that won.

I told my son that from now on we would stay out of the craziness and lay back. They only gain a couple minutes anyway.

They call Percy Priest “The Wave Pool” for a reason.

I had a similar experience a few years ago, and although his rooster tail didn’t actually wet my boat, I could have easily casted and hit him upside the head. He was running about 70 and with my boat only capable of 45 ish it would have been a waste of gas to try and chase him down. Some tournament fishermen really get on my nerves sometimes. I know not all of them are that way, but it seems like a lot of them are. Just because you have a $50,000 boat doesn’t give you the right to all but run over people.
