Weekend cranking crappie
Had 6 Bandit 300s behind boat at 6am. After about a 100 yards hooked in to something big. I was thinking hybrid but it was a blue cat 34 inches, after getting lines back in pulled him for 20 minutes expecting the 6lb test to let go at any moment but he wore down and got him netted. I don’t like catching cat but he was a lot of fun. Caught 5 more cat 2-3lbs. Had 11 keeper crappie but no big ones all 11-13 inches and all white. Shook 4 off at boat. Hotty Totty and Granada Shad were their choice for the morning. Came in at noon. Not a great bite (could of titled this post cranking for cat lol) but still a mess for the freezer.
Sunday morning at it again. 17 bigger crappie than saturday couple 14+, 3 shook off at boat. They were barely getting the tail hook just inside lip. Around 9am picked up a nice hybrid 26 inches, he was a blast on the 6lb test and only took 10 minutes to wear down. Few minutes later 2 reels were screaming we grabbed them ready for a fight when my partner tighten his drag down and didn’t take but a couple seconds for him to break off. I didn’t touch my drag and let him go, He unspooled 100 yards of new line before I could scratch my head. 2 bandits lost to hybrid or rock fish, oh well it was fun lol. Same baits produced again, all white crappie. 3 cat. Noticed more bait balls on Sunday than saturday and could see the fish busting them up in to smaller pods, when lines pulled over them we hooked fish. All in all a good weekend on priest for me.
