Hey guys, I caught a few smallmouth last weekend on Priest and want to try and find more. Any suggestions on where to look and what baits are best? I caught them last week on rattle traps.

I am no pro but I have always done better mid to down lake on gravel to chunk rock banks. Focus on bank transitions close to deeper water.

Mid and down like around Long gravel Banks with rattle traps has been fair

Not trying to get anybody’s secret spots, but could you give me more of an idea of an area, like which coves? I don’t really know where mid to down lake means. Sorry, this is my first year fishing JPP so I’m still learning.

Check out my last few reports where I had some luck with smallmouths

I caught 3 smallies a (1lb), a (2lb) and a 4lb 10oz smallie (pic included, and a bad pic at that) off a point of Hong Kong island last week. I was using a white super fluke in about 6 foot of water. I have never seen what happened before but as I was fighting this fish at the boat another came up and grabbed the fluke and ripped it off the line. It was crazy here I had my personal best small mouth of the hook and another smallie was right there stealing the bait. LOL

    Great catch!

Smallies are actually notorious for doing this. Ultra feisty and competitive fish! Growing up in Michigan, when you found a good population, you would see this quite regularly. It wouldn’t uncommon to have 5+ fish following the one that you’re hooked-up with! Every time you see it happen is like the first time, super cool!

I’ve had some largemouth do this to my crank bait when I’m lucky enough to find a school
