  • Winter Drawdown? – today’s lake conditions

I went to Priest for an hour this afternoon and noticed that the water was drawn down close to a foot since Sunday.
I’m assuming this is the start of the winter drawdown? Unless the corps dropped the lake too much in anticipation of the storms yesterday [unlikely]. Water temps on the lower lake had also dropped 4-5 degrees. Around Goose Island, the temp was right at 80 – down from 85 on Sunday afternoon. There was a pretty steady wind blowing all day, but the main lake wasn’t too rough. I spent most of my time running around the lower lake and graphing some areas. So, no fishing report to speak of.

I was out there early Friday and noticed it was down a bit as well. Water temps have def dropped. I did pretty well early on buzz baits at Bryant’s cove. I caught a few at Hong Kong island on the rocks on green pumpkin trick worms. The wind got a bit rough in the morning hours.

The lake lowered because they were doing fast water rescue training on the stones river on thursday and they opened the gates to release 2100 cfs for 3 hours on thursday afternoon. The winter draw down shouldnt start for a good 3-4 weeks yet. Usually in the first week or 2 of october.

    Awesome info Mnfisher.
I went yesterday and saw that the water had come back up a little. I love finding out the little details as to why the water goes up and down from time to time.
    thanks. j.
