If I had to pick one place around Nashville to fish for smallmouth in October, I think it would have to be the Cumberland River. The keys to it would be to make sure that there is some generation happening at the old hickory dam. You can check the TVA App for iOS or their website. The stretch that I find most productive is from Neely’s Bend up to to the dam. It’s about a 10 mile stretch. When the current is running at a moderate level [~12000] I’ve had good success fishing jigs around rocks that create current breaks. Also, the Old Hickory and Briley Pkwy bridges are good places to look for fish. If you can find it, try watching the City Limits Fishing – Nashville with Mike Iaconelli. They run most of the good stuff and you’ll be able to see what works pretty easily. Also, if the current is running good, bring a lot of jigs. On one of my best fishing days, I lost around 20 1/2oz football heads. Hope that helps. Brian, what do you think of the lakes?
