Long Nose Gar are pretty hard to hook because their entire snout is bone.
I’ve caught bigs ones on crankbaits on the cumberland while fishing for bass. I also had some strike soft body frogs at KY Lake a couple weeks ago. I think Brian’s advice is right. Something small that looks like a minnow. Little grubs, small flukes, small rapala floating minnows. The treble hooks can help to hook them as sometimes the will not penetrate inside the mouth, but will hang the outside of their snout. Word of warning… try to unhook the fish outside of your boat. They have a mean streak when brought out of the water. Good luck.
