We fished from Elm Hill to Hong Kong Island from safe light to 11am on Sunday.
Fishing buzzbaits in the backs of pockets we had decent success ~10 fish – 2 keepers – couple short strikes and 3 shook off. The key was that all fish were caught off of scattered rock in less than 2ft of water. Not in or around weeds/grass or wood. Also, fish were only on the white buzzbaits and nothing on walk-the-dog style lures. I missed a good size fish on the buzzbait in the pocket by the Lavergne Pump House. However, it was probably 5-10ft out from the edge of the dead vegetation. After about 10am everything shut down. I thought that with the cloud cover, the fishing would hold up, but it wasn’t the case. The bait also seemed to not be up shallow. There were huge schools of threadfin out over deeper water [25-40ft]. We also saw a few big schools of 6-8″ gizzard shads in Elm Hill and around YMCA cove. No success on squarebills or mid-diving crankbaits though. Should be getting better over the next few weeks!
